“Compassionate communication can support a Humanist's ability and responsibility to manifest a greater good for oneself and humanity.” –Marguerite Robbins, HSG member and lecturer on compassionate communication

The Humanist Small Group is a discussion group for Humanists and like-minded individuals that meets two Sundays each month. Topics range from religion and ethics to science, culture and personal relationships. HSG emphasizes democratic governance, encouraging attendees to suggest topics and serve as moderators.

The group’s aims include intellectual and ethical growth, deepening our understanding of, and commitment to Humanism, developing our presentation and leadership skills, and initiating other Humanist programs. HSG has been meeting regularly over the last year, and it has grown so much that it often needs to split into multiple groups. Open to the entire Harvard community, and a staple to HCH, the group boasts a range of viewpoints and backgrounds. Some recent topics have included Islam and Humanism, Sustainability, Charitable Giving, and Pain.

One recent HSG meeting was a seminar on compassionate communication, which drew a number of requests for a follow-up program that will be repeated this Spring.
